How to Book Overnight Care

Because house sitting involves an overnight stay in your home, I always start with a meet and greet to walk through your pet’s routine, house rules, emergency contacts, and any specific instructions. From there, booking is straightforward. Just confirm your dates through the Book a Service and I will take care of the rest.

What Happens During a Typical Stay

A typical overnight stay follows your pet’s usual schedule as closely as possible. I am with your pets all night and most of the day (except for previously scheduled walks/visits that I will have discussed with you, and errands like grocery shopping). If your pet is severely anxious, I would not leave them alone and arrangements will have been made for that. This means feeding times stay the same, walks happen at the times your dog is used to, and bedtime routines such as a favorite blanket or a particular room stay exactly as they are. Cats get their normal feeding and litter routine along with quiet company. Any specific instructions you provide, whether that is a medication schedule or a particular way your dog likes their leash clipped on, are followed exactly as given. Other pets, such as ferrets, fish, and lizards receive care as usual for them as well.

Preparing Your Home Before You Leave

Before an overnight stay begins, it helps to leave clear notes on feeding amounts, medication timing, vet contact information, and any household quirks such as which doors need to stay closed. I go over all of this during the meet and greet, and you are always welcome to text or call with any updates once you are traveling. The goal is for you to relax on your trip knowing every detail has been covered. If you have a pet that is actively being treated for anything (including long term conditions like diabetes), please let your vet know that I will be providing care while you are away.

Lights, curtains, and daily routines are kept as close to normal as possible, and mail or packages are brought in, so the home looks lived in the entire time you are away. I am the only person with access to your home and pet. Keys and door codes are handled very carefully.
